I am thinking of buying a Marshall DSL1, but can I play it in a Japanese apartment? I heard it is loud for its size.

The Marshall DSL1 comes in two types: a head version that works with a cabinet, and a combo version with a built-in speaker. It is designed for home use with a very low output of 1W, but being a tube amplifier, it is undoubtedly loud and difficult to use in a Japanese apartment building. While you can reduce the output down to 0.1W by toggling the "Power" switch on the back, it still feels quite loud. Therefore, I think it is best to use an attenuator that lowers only the output volume while maintaining the amp's drive feel (distortion). The bottom line is that using a tube amplifier in a Japanese multi-family housing environment is quite difficult.
