The switches on a Fender Jaguar are broadly divided into two main sections: the "lead circuit" (lower) and the "preset circuit" (upper).
- Lower Switches (Lead Circuit)
- Three slide switches: Turn each pickup ON/OFF, and the bottom one is the "low-cut (high-pass) filter (strangle switch)." This allows you to create a sharp, cutting sound.
- Lower knobs: Volume and tone controls.
- Upper Switches and Knobs (Preset Circuit)
- Upper slide switch: Turns the preset circuit ON/OFF. When ON, it switches to the upper knob settings (primarily utilizing only the neck pickup).
- Upper two mini knobs: Independent volume and tone controls for the preset. These are useful when you want to quickly switch to a mellow tone on the fly.
Basically, it is easiest to remember that you create your main sound using the lower three switches, while the upper section acts as a "switch to a different sound."
